Dobříš Castle

Where is Harry Potter?

A view of St Tyn Cathedral at night

Walking the Old Town streets at night was a real treat. The air was cold and fresh (cold for June). It had rained most of the day - but that had cleared and so had most of the tourists.

But we all kept wondering.... where is Harry Potter?

Another pic from the Wieskirche. I love this pic. This was on my wish list of places to see before I died. (which hopefully isn't soon)

I'll soon post a picture of the outside. It's very unassuming and sits in the middle of a cow pasture.

Morning on the Danube

Woke up in our attic hotel room and looked out the window and found a beautiful misty morning. Mornings don't start much better than that.

Night settles in over Hallstatt

I sat on the porch of our hotel room and watched as night settled into the deep valley. The birds sang, the swans quietly swam by and a late evening boat made the crossing. It was very peaceful and serene.

The Bird House's of Český Krumlov

o.k. look quickly at the photo. What do you see? Bird houses? No silly - they are chimney's. Good disguise though eh?

Schloss Ort in Gmünden Austria

This looked best in black and white -especially because of the snow capped peak in the background. Schloss Ort is on an island in he Traunsee. We took the wooden footpath that now connects it to Gmunden. It was a VERY nice walk along the water in the shade of Chestnut trees.

Watching over the Tower at Český Krumlov

Český Krumlov is a UNESCO World Hertiage Site. Complete and intact it's like taking a step back in time. Definitely worth at least a 2 day stay. Unfortunately we only stayed about 24 hours. The shop owners seem a little overwhelmed by all the tourists at times. We stayed right in the heart of the old town - which was pricer than I expected, but not nearly as expensive as Prague.

The moods of the Zugspitze

A series of 6 photo's take over a 48 hour period of time. Felt very fortunate to see so many different views. Particularly our spectacular day on top of the world looking down on creation. :)

We woke up to a perfect morning on our last day in Lermoos. I can't say enough nice things about the hotel, the owners or the people who work at the Silence Sporthotel Zugspitze. If you're in the area - it's a great centrally located home base for exploring both Austria (TIrol) and Germany (Upper Bavaria)

I captured this picture just after sunrise from our bedroom window. The clouds cleared overnight and the temperature dropped into the 40's. It was picture perfect. (pun intended)

Angel summoning the heavens

I like the layering effect in this photo. Took me awhile to take this picture because I had to wait until NO tourists were around.

Water Nymphs at play

Because the miniture Palace is so breathtaking most guidebooks don't spend a lot of time talking about the waterfall feature at Linderhof. It is absolutely incredible. I might also add that's it's a great work of engineering as well. The source of the water comes from the surrounding mountains high above the castle. This man-made stairstep waterfall can be viewed perfectly from King Ludwig's bed. ** Now wouldn't we all love to wake up to this view. **

The splendor of Rococo

This was on my wish list of places to see before I died. Even if you're not a fan of Rococo - this place is jaw dropping. Even if you're not religious (like me) this place is inspiring. So glad it's a UNESCO World Heritage site. Hopefully it can be preserved.

Global warming is real

We were on top of the Zugspitze exactly 13 years ago and was surprised to see just how much of the glacier was gone.

Now they will try to cover it with a tarp. Seems pointless to me.

Where are you going?

Taken in Lermoos Austria. I was sitting and wondering where this person could possibly be biking to so late in the evening.

It was a fantastic evening though. Air was cool, crisp and smelled like a meadow.

View of Sankt Salvator Church from inside Veste Oberhaus Castle

Passau wasn't my favorite place on our recent trip to Germany - but the views from Veste Oberhaus were fantastic. Here's a picture of Sankt Salvator Church.
